Draft of an essay about Emerson ..., 20th century.

Draft of an essay about Emerson and his visit to Middlebury College in July, 1845, to speak at commencement at the invitation of the Philomathesian Society, and about later speeches in 1864 and 1868, based, in part, on sources in the Henry Sheldon Museum collections. The religious and social climate at Middlebury College and in Vermont are described, as well as the reaction to Emerson's speeches from the Middlebury newspapers and other sources.
